*On the Rise* Interview With up And Coming Artist :Drastic – Prequel To Sugary Waistline
by CS on Aug.05, 2010, under Upcoming New Artists
What are your influences as an artist and why? – Major influences are song writers from the Virgin Islands Rock City who are my close friends, Verse Simmonds and Iyaz. Simply because they are island born artist who I have watched climb their way up to the top so I can more relate to them. Other than the said artist above BOB Marley is the Icon!
What do you hope to accomplish in the next 5 years – By the end of this year I believe myself and B.V the other half of the Duo ( B.V & Drastic) will be able to impact several markets as the music im working on is something brand new a fusion with soca/alternative/pop/dancehall and already my new Soca groovy single is getting crazy radio play and rapidly spreading through out the Caribbean islands. It is currently #1 In My Homeland Antigua. Music Video launching this Month of July.
Who’s your favorite artist? Ahhh that one is pretty out for the open lol, but I cant single it out to just one so here goes by Fav 5: Bob Marley…Drake….Kanye….Keri Hilson…Wyclef…Andre 3000 ok so I went to six but theres a top ten
What do you think about the game today? I think the game needs a change and that’s what im trying to bring about. Everyone has their preference ill speak with my music.
What artist have you worked with? Spragga Benz out of Jamaica who Co Starred In The Movie Shattas Song called “Rude Boy Loving” Got a feature on New RnB Sensation Verse Simmonds who recently hit the international stage with his Hot Single ( Buy You A Round), I have a track on his mixtape “Winein It” produced by a Producer out of Canada called Jinx, Im featured on UK Pop Artist Honorebel’s Album with a record produced by Chad of Slip N Slide Records called “ Crush On You” and I recently did collabs with Soca Artist out of Trinidad ‘ Ricardo Drue’ as well as a Carnival Soca Remix “ We Chillin” Feat Tian Winter 2009 Party & Groovy Monarch of Antigua. Theres More but this paragraph is looking too lengthy.
Favorite song: That would be Drake – Over because im sort of going through that situation where my career is on the rise and all of a sudden there are a bunch of strange faces surrounding me that definitely was not here Last Year….#ImJustSaying #KeepingItReal
(most buzz)whats going on with that right know – right now The Hottest thing like I said earlier is my new single “ Sugary Waistline” by Drastic im currently competing in the 2010 Antigua Carnival Soca Monarch Competition So we will see how that goes…..
What made you pursue you career in any genre? – I was a senior in the University of The Virgin Islands, there was a competition being held called the ‘ V.I Idol – Brandon Varlack a.k.a B.V suggested we enter as a group ‘ B.V & Drastic’ we won the entire thing long story short and had a lot of support from the people in the U.S Virgin Islands and I never stopped pushing forward since. We both attained or Bachelors Degree in Marketing But Music Is Just Our Life, just took us winning a competition to realize that.
How would you describe your sound of music? – Fusion of R&B, Dancehall, Soca and Island Pop
Could you tell us about your label!! – Our label is called Island Swag Entertainment still basically on the rise as it will be dependent on the success of Myself and my label Mates G.Live & B.V. All I can say is the future looks bright and we hope to put on other artist from the islands and even abroad when we are able to do so…but for now the main focus is B.V , Drastic & G.Live.
What advice can you give inspiring Artist out there – don’t prematurely bring your self out …work on your craft get real feedback from critics not your friends….your so called friends will never tell you your music sounds off or wack unless you got some real real friends…..be ready to go through a lot of disappointments because the road to the top is nothing easy….this game is not for the weak hearted..we ignore feelings here !!!
Tell us about your self - B.V & Drastic, from the islands of St. Thomas, V.I. and Antigua respectively, are a duo fused together by musical aptitude, entertaining power and songwriting talent. Though new to the music circuit, they have already established themselves as bona fide talent with their unique style which is a fusion of R&B, Dancehall, and Island Pop. Brandon “B.V.” Varlack and Art “Drastic” Philip started their musical journey when they met while attending the University of the Virgin Islands. Both graduates exploded onto the scene by capturing the title of the first ever V.I. Idol champions of 2007. In 2008 B.V & Drastic signed with Island Swag Entertainment founded by their manager which led up to the release of their first EP on iTunes. The EP “Mix It Up” featured their award winning Single “Lay Your Body Down” and was followed by the group’s first mixtape called “The Introduction” hosted by DJ Benny D Akon’s Official DJ and DJ Avalanche of the Virgin Islands. The Introduction mixtape is a 18 track musical journey of their transition from college graduates to entertainers. The mixtape includes a feature from Spragga Benz, the Young Money Cover “Island Girls” and much more it can be downloaded from many sites such as Datpiff.com, RnbXclusive.com, and DJBennyDFansite.TV. The talented two are currently working on new projects and Drastic has recently released a brand new single called “ Sugary Waistline” and from The Introduction series “So Seductive”. For exclusive insight on B.V & Drastic and more log on to http://islandswagentertainment.blogspot.com

Kayla Kane Exclusive With Up and Coming WestCoast Artist:KITTY
by CS on Aug.01, 2010, under Upcoming New Artists
KK: Tell us a lil ‘bout yourself & where you grew up at?
KITTY: My name is Kitty I’m from Southern California. Southeast San Diego to be more exact and I’m just an artist who loves to make music.
KK: How would you describe your sound of music & what makes you different then anyone else in this game?
KITTY: My style is unique. And the reason I’m different is because, I’m an artist who can’t be put into just one kind of box. As soon as you attempt to stereotype or generalize me, that’s probably when your going to find something that I did or said that’s going to make you take me out of the box you put me in.
KK: How did you come up wit the name Kitty? And what influenced you to get in this game?
KITTY: I really didn’t come up with the name Kitty, it was givin to me by a homeboy BGood I used to rap with back in the day. My love for music and the encouragement from Snoop when he told me this is what I should be doing is what influenced me to get in this game.
KK: What are you working on currently right now? Were can your supporters cop your musik?
KITTY: Right now I’m working on my second mixtape West Coast Offense, and at the same time I’m working on my third album The Ultimate Kat. Both coming soon. You can cop the music just about anywhere you can get music really mostly online my website fedhaentertainment.com, ITunes, Rapsody, Amazon, just to name a few.
KK: Favorite track (with the most buzz)? Whats going on with that right know?
KITTY: The track that has the most buzz right now is a single called work my kitty off of my sophomore album Lyrical Gift. Which is available now. And currently I’m just traveling doing shows to continue this promotion until the release of my upcoming projects.
KK: Who are some of your favorite peepz you have worked with in this industry? Anyone you would like to work wit in the future?
KITTY: A favorite list for me is hard because as an artist I strive to work with those who I admire and been mentors for me in the game. From artist to producers. So to name names I really can’t do however just about everyone I work with is one of my favorites.
KK: This is a tough industry especially bein a female in the biz, what keeps you motivated to stay wit it?
KITTY: I’ve always enjoyed challenges. And that’s my sole motivation, to show and prove that I am one if the best, male or female because I’m an artist. Not really a rapper. Alot of people don’t know a difference between the two.
KK: How do you feel ‘bout the musik industry today?
KITTY: I just feel that the industry needs to go back to the hands of the people, musicians, producers, and djs, instead of in the hands of programmers and corporations. When it does, that’s when I’ll be satisfied with it. Until then I’m not.
KK: What advice can you offer to aspiring female artists?
KITTY: My advice is, if you aspire to be in this business, then know your business. Because as I always like to say “It’s not show friends, It’s show business.”
KK: We wanna thank you Kitty for linkin’ up wit Dreamsblend.com! Any shout outs?
KITTY: Always got to give God his shout out and thanks, Fedha Entertainment, and of course Dreamsblend.com thank you for having me.

*On The Rise* Interview With Artist Sean Garris (aka King Tef) On Dreamsblend.com
by CS on Jul.25, 2010, under Upcoming New Artists
How do you define your music?
A: I call my music “King Muzik”, because a King is the speaker for all his people, I want my music to speak for my people and connect with all there thoughts and emotions. So I like to take every human emotion available and make a song that caters to that emotion because we all feel and go through each. I make love songs, songs that show aggression, conscious songs, and club song creating that human characteristic that allows consumers to connect their own life to the music no matter whether their mad, at the club happy, in a relationship, just hollering at someone, or on a conscious tip they have something they can ride to.
What are your influences as an artist?
B: My main influence in this music game is my brother Yahonne Garris who passed away in 2002 R.I.P. He was an amazing poet who inspired me to jump into this rap game after he passed so he could live on through me. My mom was a music teacher and still plays music in the church and different events so she inspired me just to love music in general. My dad who was special forces in Vietnam had such a collection of music due to the time he was away from his family built up that when I was born, I grew up listening to all the classic R&B, blues, Jazz, etc. which really expanded my knowledge of music. As far as famous artist my influences are Tupac (the greatest of all times), Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, O’Jays, Earth Wind and Fire, Ray Charles, Eminem, Andre 3000, Ludacris, T.I., DMX, Usher, 50 Cent, Nelly, LL Cool J, and myself. LOL
What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years and why?
C: Over the next 5 years I want to get to a point in this rap game where I can create enough stability with my career that I can venture to other industries and use my business degree to expand ways of creating income and success. I want this because once I have a family of my own, I want them to have good lives and be set up as good as I can set them up within this world.
Who’s your favorite artist?
D: As I stated, I have a lot of influences but other than my brother, my favorite artist is me. If your in this industry and you don’t feel you’re the best, somethings wrong wit your self esteem. Whether you are or arnt the best to others, at least you should be the best to you. To me im the best, I rap what I wanna hear, and I say shit that I like so no question, I’m my favorite artist.
what do you think about the game today?
E: I think the game is good today. A lot of people say hip hop is dead but I don’t believe that, I think it just expands and becomes more diverse, creates more opportunities and show cases different stories of people from all walks of life. I can never knock hip hop cus I love it that much that I can see past my biased views to help this genre grow and take over the music game. I do feel like because of the economy the rap game has become pretty packed due to everyone thinking they can rap but I think that creats a bigger lane for the independent artist to get seen with things like the internet etc. which makes the game bigger and better with the opportunity for consumers to not just be monopolized wit industry music!
What artists have you worked with
F: In my bio you can see i have such a long list of artist ive done shows with and done songs with that I don’t want to leave anyone out or just make a big list but im always down to work with new artist and all artist that have love for this music thing like I do, so holla at me http://www.kingtef.com or kingtef@gmail and lets get it in.
favorite song(most buzz)whats going on with that right know
G: the biggest song ive had would have to be “Tilt” which has a video to it, which is on youtube with close to 30k views. I received a hat sponsor from it, check out http://www.ontilt.com. Right now I’m working with a couple alcohol sponsors and my label Top Flite Empire to just put Colorado on the map. We headline out her and put 1k in attendance at our events which isn’t to shabby for a local act. Keep in touch with me and help make this buzz pop off.
how was to growing up in (city) in the scene out there
H: The scene out here is untapped. The market is virgin so it’s a curse and a blessing because cities already in the industry don’t really believe us and don’t think rap can come from here but the untapped market has a lot of money and people willing to support their hometown stars. Its just getting to a point where multiple rappers out here are really starting to get nationwide exposure so I figure give it a few years and Colorado will be the next big thing.
what made you pursue you career in hip hop or any genre
I: As I stated in my influences, I started rappin due to my brother passing away and me wanting to keep his music alive through me. He passed away my senior year in highschool and from that point on I tried to start rappin but couldn’t take it seriously because I went off to college. After winning the hip hop summit out here and seeing that I could actually make money in this rap game, I started taking it more seriously after I graduated. Then with the untimely death of my hypeman and best friends mom MRs. Cox, I decided to take this rap thing to the next level. So with My brother and Mrs. Cox watching over me, my parents support, and my top flite team, I feel like I can take this music thing to the top.
how would you describe your sound of music
J: My style of music has the swag of T.I., the metaphors of Ludacris, I dance like usher, with ladies appeal like LL Cool J, and the willingness to touch every topic like 2 pac.
could you tell us about your label!!
K: My label consists of some of the hottest artist and businessmen in the mountain region. We sell out theaters and have had shows that have been up to 20k in attendance and headlined shows from 1k to 2k in attendance. Are network is 200k deep over internet sites and email lists. Talk is cheap so check us out at http://www.topfliteempire.com
what advice can you give inspiring Artist out there
L: The main advice I can tell an artist is don’t take no advice LOL. Believe in yaself, ya music and follow your heart, not everyone else’s advice. Whose to say your shit is or isn’t hot, with the trends changing all the time you never know. Be you, because those that matter don’t mind, and those that mind don’t matter.
tell us about your self
M: Well, basically im a home body that likes doing music, hanging with family, friends, and just chilling. I have a business degree, which I use everyday in this rap industry. I stay in Colorado, I like almost anything with chicken, addicted to sugar cookies, and I believe humor is a key to life.
how was it growing up
N: Growin up I started off as a nerd because I was sheltered due to my dad being in the military and my brother being so much older than me and wanting to protect me. I was then diagnosed with cancer at a young age. After coming to terms with death possibly, that changed my life, I became hardened along with more knowledgeable about what I want form life at a young age. Living Colorado but also going back and forth to the east coast helped me become diverse in cultures so I seen both sides of the tracks. My brother made be cool, he taught me how to do everything. I played basketball most of my life until I hurt my ankles and couldn’t play anymore. Then my brother passed away and it changed my life to how I am now.
aside from music what was your other interest
O: As I stated I use to play basketball but now aside from music I don’t have other interest other than trying to live a peaceful happy life and just living to the fullest.
what are your current projects
P: My current project is my album “Tha King” go get it at Itunes http://itunes.apple.com/album/tha-k-i-n-g/id355250962?v0=9988&ign-mpt=uo%3D1

YR: The industry today is good people are being more creative and taking chances with their records but I just wish it was more serious artist that care about the art instead of the 15 minutes of fame, keep goin!!! don’t get a few 100,000 and give up because I’m a fan waitin for the follow up and that’s why Hip Hop is disappointed niggas is like Jordan for the Wizards instead of Jordan for the Bulls why even try and come back with some weak game and that’s why the Westcoast is in its position now niggas b hot off 1 song get a little dough and put more time in they newly found pimp game then they do they music, its only 1 Suga Free or Mac Dre, but I love it makes it easier for real 1′s like me
KK: What advice can you offer to aspiring rappers?

New Interview! Upcoming Artist: K.B.- Album:”IM THAT DUDE”
by CS on May.22, 2010, under Upcoming New Artists
Raised in the East side of Southeast San Diego,K.B A New and Upcoming Artist Sits down with Us and explains his Come up in Hip hop and how he’s Focusing on his DREAM…..
CS: Let the people know where you from,
eastside of southeast San Diego…the danger zone…ha ha!…but it’s cool tho.
CS:what are your influences as an artist and why?
KB: My main influence is music because it’s the most fun and direct way to express yourself through art…it’s like painting with music…certain songs .ake me see certain colors. I can’t explain much but good music inspires me to make good music. I like to keep spreading the feeling.
CS:Whats going on with the with your New Lp
KB : It’s pretty much me and my peeps I like rappin with over my best choices of beats. I’m gonna try and get my music heard by the masses and I feel I can do it with my first LP because of how universal the songs are. Everybody’s gonna love it.
CS:favorite songs on LP (most buzz)whats going on with that right now?
KB: My favorite songs would have to be Message to Mama, Don’t You Know, Different, The Homie’s, and my title track. Came A Long Way is doin good as a single and also a video on You Tube. It has close to 1,000 views in six months, trying to increase the amount, keep the buzz going. It’s a great song!…shout out to Young Mass for the beat.
CS:what do you hope to accomplish in the next 5 years?
KB: In the next five years, I hope to be on my 3rd or 4th album, be a senior in the hip hop/rap game and have the respect of the hip hop artists I love and listen to now.
CS:what advice can you give aspiring rappers out there!
KB: My advice to a new artist would be to stay consistent with what you do, stay humble and don’t be afraid to take that risk…if your flow is nice, let the whole world know and if I can do it then you can do it. Ha ha!
CS:how do you define your music!? and how are you different from other rappers in the game right know?
KB: I’m a street lyricist with a slightly rough edge. I sound like no one in the game. My song topics are random yet serious. My rhyme pattern is unorthodox. Ha ha! I think what makes me stand out is I’m the Nicest white MC that San Diego has man. Listen and tell me if you feel the same. Ha ha!
CS:well we wanna thank u KB… once again thanks for linking up with
dreamsblend.com any shout outs to any body you wanna holla @
KB: Yeah no doubt man. I like the website… Shit I’d like to shout out to my lil sis and her newborn son…and all hip hop heads. Let’s collaborate…get at me.
