KK~ Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are and where you grew up at…

Hello world my name is Johnny Michael a.k.a. JM .  I am a vocal artist who was raised in a town called Visalia Ca. but have spent the past few years of my life residing in Los Angeles Ca.

KK~Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about how you got into the industry and what inspired you?
Well actually I was always into dance and grew up watching my uncles break and pop so thats where my love for the art began…Then I had my other uncle always bumping Prince & Michael Jackson so I immediately took to that!  I remember playing MJs “Thriller” album and I would be writing his lyrics down word for word! I would rewind the song so many times till I had the whole song written! lol
My dad was always bumpin “Motown” and just quality soul music like the “Isleys” & “Barry White” so that played a huge role on how I write music as well…
As far as how I got into the industry well lets just say it took major hustle and networking!  The computer in a sense brought the music dollar value down but it also made it easier to reach out to the masses! So it definitly helped push my projects from an independent label perspective.

KK~There are a lot of Indie artists coming out of Cali. Do you feel as tho your one of the few who stands out amongst the rest?

Well I dont wanna sound biased but YES !lol  The reason being is because I am not another rapper . I am a singing vocalist who has already collaborated with the best of the best in the West coast and when it comes time to create a song I take my time and do my best to make QUALITY music !

KK~ Have you ever felt like too much time passes in the game where you have to make it and that window is closing?
Good question and the answer is “YES” I do feel like that every now and then . But all I do is follow my heart and look back at all I have accomplished so far and the many people I have inspired to this point. Not to mention the daily reminders I get online from people saying they enjoy the music, and when I hear that it truly keeps me motivated to keep creating!

KK~ As of right now, who in the industry would you say you listen to on a regular and would probably like to work with in the near future?

Hmm honestly im always keeping up with Akon n The Dream…Both very talented and I have always been intrigued by Akons strategic bizness moves with Konvict records ! I hope to work with him soon and am very fortunate to have the Konvict stamp on my next single “Fast Girl” featuring  “Qwess” from 50/50 Konvict Records!

KK~ In retrospect, being a songwriter, would you consider writing songs for any of them if the opportunity presented itself?

Oh yeah without a doubt ! I love creating and just being a part of the whole process with music moguls would be an honor!

KK~ You have a couple songs “Wonder Woman” & “Wanna Be Ur Lover” can you touch a lil basis on the history of those tracks?

Well “Wanna Be Ur Lover” is a Prince cover that I just had to do…Being that Prince is the single artist who has inspired me the most! Dude is just a genius…  And when  the “Wonder Woman” concept was created ,I was just trying to figure out how I could make a catchy simple title that all women would connect with ! It always helps when you have great music production from producers such as Lance Jones & R1CKONE of Aristotrax as well as Imfamous beats!

KK~ Are fans responding to your new music the way you want them to?

Yeah I believe so… I get alot of love from supporters and people wanting me to collaborate on their music projects as well!

KK~ What is your relationship like with some of Cali’s Indie talent and how important is having unity amongst you all?

I have made some great friends with artists that I have been collaborating with thruought Cali…. I think unity is very important and helpful on your journey to creating a succesful carreer in the music biz… I’ve collab’d with artists such as Da Funkyard, J Smooth, Roscoe Umali  and Da Problem to name a few. Each of these artists have there own following and when you create a song together then all your doing is combining fanbases to create a larger network! Its a win win scenario..

. Also I am currently working on a “Salute to the Troops” song which will be welcoming our troops home and showcasing some of Cali’s new talent as well as feat. artists such as Wiz Khalifa, Mike Jones, Slick Watts, and Chris Stylez to name a few!

KK~ What direction do you feel Westcoast is headed heading into 2011?

Hmmm interesting question…lol…. Well for starters I feel as if the old West Coast gangsta music/mentality  has really been getting passed by and ain’t quite poppin like it used to be .(No disrespect to anyone)  I feel as if the younger generation of party music and feel good music such as LMFAO, New Boyz, Cali Swagg etc. is gonna be more of the commercial music thats gonna generate buzz and revenue for the West Coast now…This might not be a bad thing for our younger generation…Could bring down the violence and crime rate for the West….lol

KK~ What advice can you offer to new upcoming artists getting’ into this game?

BE ALL THAT YOU CAN BE!!! lol   Be an artist. writer, producer, manager, graphic designer, engineer and most importantly be YOURSELF !  The more hats you can wear on your head then the less you have to rely and wait on others to do anything for you!  Also get creative and use the computer for all its worth by promoting and other resources… We are in an era where we have the world at our fingertips so use it!

KK~When it is all said and done, how would Johnny Michael like to be remembered?

As a SOLID person who put love into the music & helped inspire souls on their journey thru life!
